Korai (Maiden) Figures

Korai (Kore-singular) figures were created during the Archaic period of Greek history . Many feel that they may represent Persephone, the daughter in the triad of the Mother Goddess cults or that they are votary figures meant to attend the maiden goddess.
The Kore figure has an elaborate braided hairdo and is dressed in colorful drapery. Kouroi, the male equivalent to the Korai, are always portrayed nude.
My figures are based on the ancient Korai and the articulated figures dating from this same period that have also been found.

All figures are polymer clay and wire on wood bases covered with oriental natural fiber papers.

They may be removed from their stand and hung.

They are 8” to 10” tall and were made in November 2008.
